We've answered the most common questions families have about early intervention
Early intervention is a system of services that helps infants and toddlers (birth to age 3) with developmental delays or disabilities. Services can include speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and family support. In New Jersey, early intervention is provided through the state's Early Intervention System (EIS) at little or no cost to families.
Children may qualify if they have a developmental delay in areas like speech, motor skills, cognitive development, social-emotional development, or self-care. They may also qualify if they have a diagnosed condition likely to cause delays. If you have concerns about your child's development, contact us to discuss how we can help. Check eligibility here.
We offer flexibility! Therapy can take place in your home, at one of our centers, at your child's daycare, or via telehealth. Many families prefer home-based therapy because it's convenient and allows us to work with your child in their natural environment. We also offer evening and Saturday appointments to accommodate working families.
The duration varies based on your child's individual needs and goals. Some children make rapid progress in 3-6 months, while others benefit from ongoing support throughout the early intervention period (up to age 3). We reassess progress every 6 months and adjust the treatment plan accordingly. Our goal is always to help your child reach their full potential.
At age 3, children transition out of early intervention. If your child still needs support, they may be eligible for services through your local school district's preschool special education program. We help families navigate this transition by connecting you with resources, attending transition meetings, and ensuring continuity of care. We start planning for this transition well in advance.
We know early intervention is time-sensitive. Most families can begin therapy within 2-3 weeks of contacting us. We prioritize getting your child the help they need as quickly as possible.
